Parenting Skills Based On The Qur’an And Sunnah

This book is the third in a series that contains detailed answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the hot topic of parenting in North America. Because some of these questions have been raised more than once in recent years, we feel that they represent crucial issues of concern occupying the minds of many parents. Making these answers available in a written format would hopefully provide Muslim parents with the proper advice supported by the Qur’an as well as the teachings of the prophet Muhammad SAW.

The methodology used in answering these questions draws heavily on verses of the Qur’an, teachings of the prophet Muhammad SAW, and events in his Seerah, as well as the authors’ wealth of practical experience, gained from their countless parenting counseling sessions over the years, and their knowledge of child psychology.

It is important that the Muslim parents and educators should take every care to see that our children grow up with a sound knowledge of their Deen (religion) and the culture that is developed as a result of following Islam. A child should be introduced to the basic matters of Eeman (faith) in a happy and lively way. This book has given an overview of the mother’s role and touched on the basics of raising babies and small children. Whilst motherhood is one of the most rewarding of roles, it is also a very complex role that brings many trials and challenges that cannot be covered fully in a single volume.

It is hoped that having read this book, readers will go beyond its parameters to learn all they can about how to care for their infants. In the teachings of Islam, the voices of experience provided by our own mothers and grandmothers, and the exchange of ideas and tips with other parents, new mothers can find guidelines to follow as they embark upon the journey of motherhood. The help and advice of doctors, public health nurses and other professionals may also be added to the mother’s “support system.”

Over and above all that, the Muslim mother can and must put her trust in Allah and seek His help and guidance.
