Arabic Through The Qur’an
Whether used as a means of self-instruction or as part of higher learning coursework, this language primer is ideally suited for those wishing to learn classical Arabic and for Muslims who wish to learn Arabic exclusively for use in their religious and spiritual practice. Designed to enhance the understanding of the Qur’an and its vocabulary that has infiltrated the whole of Arabic and Islamic literature, this workbook provides 40 easy-to-follow lessons for learning Qur’anic rather than modern Arabic. Beginning with a section on the Arabic alphabet, the text moves on to individual lessons that address one or more grammatical topics, ranging from the basics of nouns, adjectives, and prepositions to the more complex concepts of the imperative, the passive, and conditional sentence, introducing new vocabulary in the process. Beyond Mere Christianity (H/B)
The book is called Beyond Mere Christianity for two reasons. First, in response to C.S. Lewis’ influential 1952 work, Mere Christianity, which stands as a masterpiece of Christian apologetics. The second reason, perhaps less obvious, is that a case can be made, based on current, responsible Gospel scholarship, that Jesus was calling his people to the Salvation that lies beyond the worship of the merely created, the Salvation that relies instead on the direct worship of the Creator. I believe emphatically that the authentic words of Jesus invite us to move beyond what is conventionally understood as Christianity for this Salvation.
A Thinking Person’s Guide to Islam
The world is at a crossroads today. A tiny minority of Muslims seems to be bent on hijacking the religion of Islam and bringing it into perpetual conflict with the rest of the world. Because of their actions, very few non-Muslims understand the real difference between Islam as it has always been, and the distorted perversions of Islam today. This book is an attempt to positively say what Islam actually is—and always was—as well as what it is not.
Why Not Cover Your Modesty
Hijab – or the veil – is an inseparable part of an Islamic Society. Both, the Qur’an and the Sunnah have specific directives regarding the veiling of women (and even the appropriate dress for men). However, the influence of western and atheistic cultures has had great impact, attempting to infuse its norms on the Muslim lands. The very concept of Hijab has been under attack, singled out for criticism. This small book addresses the importance of the Islamic concept of Hijab and how it seeks to honour women and protect the family unit. The author quotes from the Qur’an and the Sunnah to support Hijab. He also critically appraises the dangerous outcome of the unveiling campaign in the so-called free societies in the east and the west.
