Consensus of the Islamic Jurists, is an English translation of the Arabic book al-Ijma’ by In this work, Imam Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Mundhir. The book is unique in its subject matter as it deals with only those issues of Islamic jurisprudence that the scholars agreed on. The translator has added annotations to the work that may offer benefit for those who wish to study the subject matter further. This expansive knowledge of the difference of opinion and issues of fiqh and usul al-fiqh placed ibn Mundhir in excellent grasp of the knowledge of the issues upon which the Islamic community agreed, thereby permitting him to author the book al-Ijma’. Anyone who knows of this topic and reads this book with an open mind will come to know that this book is the best of its kind on the this subject. For this reason ibn Qudamah, in al-Mughni, quotes often from al-Ijma’ and from ibn Mundhir’s other works. Also, [Imam] al-Nawawai said in al-Majmu’, “Anything I quote from al-Ijma’ of ibn Mundhir is an example of excellence in this science.” Ibn Hajar and al-Qurtubi also quoted from him as did ibn Rushd in his book Bidayat al-Mujtahid. The author is Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Mundhir, Abu Bakr al-Nisaburi. He was a great scholar in the various Islamic sciences and disciplines. He eventually resided in Makkah and became the Shaykh of the Haram (the Holy Sanctuary). He later died there around the year 318 AH. The scholars have said the following about him: Adh-Dhahabi said, “The unique scholar of hadith and jurisprudence, and the Shaykh of the Haram, the one who authored books, the likes of which have never been written.” An-Nawawi said, “The famous imam and one of the imams of Islam. Everyone has agreed to the fact that he was an imaam, virtuous, and very knowledgeable both in the field of hadith and fiqh…He is at the highest level of knowledge when it comes to which hadiths are authentic and which ones are weak.”

The Right to Education, Work and Welfare in Islam (P/B)

Istihsan (P/B)
This work constitutes a critical analysis of classical and modern aspects of the concept of istihsan (juristic preference), an important principle in Islamic legal legislation throughout history. Although there has been many research works on the subject, it still requires further investigation on the role and nature of istihsan with regard to a combination of classical and modern approaches. Consisting of four chapters, the author begins by introducing some general principles of Islamic law, before discussing the history of istihsan during the time of the Prophet and his Companions. He also analyses the validity of istihsan as a source of law and discusses the differences among scholars on its method of implementation.
The Problems of the Illegitimate Child (P/B)
This book addresses the views of the Sunni scholars regarding the importance of genealogical relationship (nasab) in Islamic family law and examines the role of legitimacy on the basis of the legal maxim “al-walad li al-firash”, evidence (al-bayyinah), and doubtful intercourse (wat’ shubhah). It also elucidates the views of the Sunni schools of law on how to establish illegitimacy. For the Sunni jurists, there are several situations that determine the illegitimacy of the child. A child is considered illegitimate if its birth is the outcome of adultery (zina) or the result of legitimate union but accompanied with imprecation (li‘an). Other circumstances include the birth of the child taking place in less than six lunar months, the father of the child being categorized as one who is incapable of begetting, or the birth as a result of marital relationship considered unlawful because of consanguinity. The book also deals comprehensively with the moral, religious, legal and other aspects of the illegitimate child and the foundling in the works of the Sunni jurists. The status and rights of the illegitimate child and the foundling in the Islamic family law of Malaysia and Brunei are also discussed by referring to some provisions from Federal Territory Act 1984 (Act 303) and Brunei law.

Tajweed Rules of the Quran (Part Three)
This is the third and final part of a three part series in English on the rules of tajweed the Qur’an for the recitation of Hafs from ‘Aasim by the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah. These books are meant as a guide for non-Arabs with a good grasp of English for studying tajweed of the Glorious Qur’an. This final book explains the stop and start when reading the Glorious Qur’an, and gives details as to what kind of stop is allowed, what kind is preferred, and what kind of stop is forbidden. Stopping on the ends of words with strong endings (consonants) and rules for what is allowed on the last letter of the word is described, including ar-room (الروم) and al-ishmaam (الإشمام). Stopping on the ends of words with weak endings (words ending in the alif, ya’ or wow) and different rules and explanations for these type of words is clarified. One important aspect of Qur’an recitation is knowing and understanding which word combinations are written together and which separately in different parts of the Qur’an as well as in which places of the Qur’an are some words are written the female haa (هاء), and in which places they are written with the taa (تاء). This part lays out the different places in the Qur’an these occurrences take place, so the reader knows how he/she can stop on these words. The words that are read in a special way, or have two allowed ways for the reading of Hafs from ‘Aasim by the way of Ash-Shaatibiyyah are detailed in this book. The history of the writing of the Glorious Qur’an (رسم) and the general rules for the writing of the Qur’an are laid out in the last chapter of this part. This last part of the three parts on tajweed is for students who have studied and mastered the other two parts, or have studied everything covered in the first two parts. The explanations of the different subjects are in English, and the Arabic terms are translated. The goal is always to assist the students in understanding and to encourage them to learn the Arabic terms and definitions. The three parts of this series on tajweed rules of the Glorious Qur’an should facilitate non-Arabic speaking students of the Qur’an whether they are in a classroom with an Arabic medium for teaching or English. With this third part completed, insha’ Allah the non-Arab English speaking student of the Qur’an will find a complete curriculum and explanation of the tajweed rules for the recitation of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim from the way of Ash-Shatibiyyah in any classroom or study situation that he/she may find themselves in. These three parts are only guidance; the real goal is reciting and applying all the different rules correction which can only be done by reciting to and being corrected by a qualified teacher of the Qur’an.
The Wise Counsel of Luqman
Al-Hikmah is a divine prerogative. It is a gift from Allah granted to whomever He Wills from among His servants. Some define it as ‘beneficial knowledge that corroborates with good righteous deeds’; others say it is ‘doing an appropriate act at the most appropriate time and place’; and yet others deem it to be foresightedness, comprehension, felicitous conduct and good opinion. All of these definition are in fact befitting and apt. Allah, The Most High bestowed Luqman (upon him be peace) with much foresight, intelligence and profound judgement – injecting it deep into his heart whereby his words, deeds and manners were grounded in wisdom. Allah Revealed: “And indeed we bestowed upon Luqman Al- Hikmah…” [Luqman (31): 12] The instructions and advices found in the story of Luqman Al-Ḥakim comprise noble guidance and contain perfect conduct in inviting people towards Allah, and nurturing of children. It speaks of proper upbringing of a generation, describing ways to success and teaching people holistic goodness. Making it incumbent upon every mentor, father and teacher to pay attention to the prescriptions found therein; providing contemplation and deriving exemplary lesson plans in the field of propagating and education. These lessons can tangibly facilitate in drawing hearts and enriching minds. Consisting of elementary details that appeal to one’s good conscience; for indeed putting across Allah’s Message to mankind requires proper planning and tact that is plentiful within the story. One who advises to such a degree is indeed blessed with prudence – a blessing from Allah, not just for Luqman but for anyone who takes him as a role-model.
