Kitab AR-RISALAH Imam Syafi’i merupakan kitab yang pertama tentang ushul fikih. Secara spesifik berisi teori jurisprudensi dalam menentukan hukum fikih. Teori tersebut berupa kaidah-kaidah fikih yang digunakan untuk mengurai hukum-hukum dalam al-Quran dan Hadits.
Dutulis dari perkataan Imam Syafi’i (767 – 820 M) untuk menjawab persoalan-persoalan fikih yang terjadi kala itu. Melalui karya ini, Imam Syafi’i dikenal luas oleh dunia Islam sebagai pelatak dasar-dasar ilmu ushul fikih dan pendiri madzhab Syafi’i.
Di Indonesia, pemikiran beliau menjadi rujukan utama dalam persoalan fikih, karena mayoritas penduduknya menganut madzhab Syafi’i. Karena itu, menelaah kitab ini wajib hukumnya jika ingin mengerti madzhab Syafi’i secara lebih mendalam.
