ان من واجب اهل العلم ضبط معانيه وكشف حقائقه وخوافيه ختى تكون الطريق سالكة لاخلط فيها ولا شائك مع بيان ماله من اصول تسهيلا لطرائق السير والوصول وبالمقابل فما اجمل وصية الخطيب البغدادي في كتابه الجامع لأخلاق الراوي وآداب السامع (1/78) :

الواجب ان يكونطلبة الحديث اكمل الناس ادبا واشد الخلق تواضعا واعظمهم تدينا ونزاهة واقلهم طيشا وغضبا لدوام قرع اسماعهم بالاخبار المشتملة على محاسن اخلاق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وادابه وسيرة السلف الاخيار من اهل بيته واصحابه وطرائق المحدثين وماثر الماضين فاخذوا باجملها واحسنها ويصدفوا عن ارذلها واونها

وهذا الكتاب ينتفع به الطلاب والعلماء لما فيه من التنبيهات الدقيقة والتحقيقات الوثيقة والتي هي ما يبهر العقول بسبب ما فيها من محاسن التوجيهات وبادئع الآثار ولطائف النقول ومن اجمل ما تضمنته من تنويع في إطار مسلكي بديع فضلا عن التدرج في التوجيه والتلطف في التنبيه ابتداء من طلبة المبتدئين مرورا بأمثالهم من المتفوقين ووصولا الى مراتب العلماء الربانيون والعاملين واولي الالباب. قال ابن الجوزي رحمه الله في كتابه صيد الخاطر :

رايت من راي القديم أن نفع التصانيف أكثر من نفع التعليم بالمشافهة لأني اشافه في عمري عددا من المتعلمين و اشافه بتصنيفي خلقا لا يحصى – ما خلقوا بعد.

فينبغي للعالم ان يتوفر على التصانيف فإنه ليس كل من صنف صنف وليس المقصود جمع شيء كيف كان وإنما هي أسرار يطلع الله عليها من شاء من عباده ويوفقه لكشفها فيجمع ما فرق او يرتب ما شتت أو يشرح ما اهمل وهذا هو التصنيف المفيد
